About Battersea Dogs & Cats Home

Battersea get more pedigree dogs than mongrels. Over breeding health problems, lack of research on the breed type and expensive dogs bought on a cute factor or whim, can all add up to unwanted.

Obviously, Battersea take in stray dogs and cats off the street, they also care for animals whose owners have gone into hospital, care, social housing and even prison.

Battersea have...

A veterinary wing for full health checks on arrival, treatment and neutering operations

A Lost and Found Centre – to help reunite as many lost dogs and cats with their owners. Micro chipped animals have a greater chance of being reunited with their owners.

A Grooming Parlour – essential when trying to discover the dog hidden under matted fur and street grime. Assessment Wing – a separate area that holds all the stray dogs for seven days and allows staff to get to know them.

A Fostering Scheme to allow extra TLC for animals that need more care and a break from kennels. Over two hundred volunteers, who walk, clean and care for the animals. Amazingly dedicated staffs, which do end up adopting many of the unfortunate lost causes!

Battersea are primarily supported by bequeaths and donations and like most charities need every penny they can get. It costs over £12 million a year to run the Home. With no Government funding, Battersea relies on legacies, donations and fund raising projects like my book!

Blankets, pet food and towels are always on the donation wish list.
