Family Greene are “Dog People” to the very core of their being. But only ever rescues, always rescues. George, the large black Labrador X arrived unexpectedly one cold December evening. Starved and beaten, desperate for love but terrified of humans, he’d been rescued from a squat. It was two weeks before Jayne could even stroke him and three months before he’d accept a cuddle from Matt. Oh how he has changed! ‘Brace yourself’ is the advice given to any visitor. George greets everyone by putting his paws round their shoulders and giving them a big wet dog kiss. He adores playing football and rugby and jumping waves at the beach with the Greene’s son, Mikey. Bella is the brindle mongrel Jayne always wanted. Discovered on the streets of Cork, Bella was a very poorly puppy. She has since grown into a healthy, affectionate, bossy, playful minx who loves dancing. With the funniest smile and a penchant for leaning, Bella is great to cuddle. On the other paw, Shaymus, their big orange ball of fluff, doesn’t do cuddles. Or kisses. But he is the friendliest of their gang and always by Jayne’s side. She hasn’t used the loo or had a bath alone for the last three years! These three, along with Rupert, their fourth rescue pal, surely consider themselves the luckiest souls alive.
