WINNERS | 2026 Calendars & Diaries

Winners | 2026 Calendars & Diaries

It’s DONE!

The 2026 calendar and diary project has left the building and I REALLY hope you like them because it has been a beast! I know I say this every year but this time I really mean it. I look and feel like a dog-chewed slipper. Who knew drawing could be so intense?!  The pain in my neck and shoulder from seven weeks of zero movement and spud-like posture is roaring and I’m physically drained. The is mainly because I poisoned myself in the final week on what must have been a passed it’s best burrito. That, and the fact I barely acknowledged the existence of fruit or veg for the entirety of the project. I favour dark chocolate digestives and copious cups of tea when I get in the creative zone. However, the health consequences now that I’m standing in the porch of old age means I’m going to have to seriously consider changing my default work settings!

Cabin Fever & Alphabet Soup

Please don’t think I’m moaning and rattling on in the hope of sympathy, its more a case that now I’m out of my solitary drawing cupboard and easing back into society I find, along with the food poisoning, I’ve got cabin fever. This manifests with me talking a lot, at speed, about myself and the 490 hours of radio and podcasts I’ve binged whilst painting. Unfortunately, instead of being super well informed and intelligent, all the news and fun facts I’ve absorbed are now merged into one big pot of alphabet soup. Letters randomly float up to the surface of my brain and my mouth is off.

Ooh look a B!

B is for Lyndon B Johnson. The 36th President of the USA. I now know Trump is not the first dangerously egotistical American president to behave shockingly. Apparently LBJ used to deliberately pee alongside other men at the urinals to intimidate them and thought nothing of getting his manhood out while his PA was note taking. And did you know the saying “Mad as a Hatter” likely evolved from all the poor hatters who suffered from serious mental illness because of the mercury they used in the hat making process. Actually, when I’ve showcased the calendar and diary winners I would love to share the best bits of radio with links to some really interesting chat including the story about Wojtek the bear that fought for the Allies in WW2. It’ll warm the cockles of your heart!

But I digress. Back to the 2026 calendars and diaries reveal.

A Bit Of A Beg

Actually, before I show you the winners, can I shout out a pretty please plea to the super efficient. I finished the project twenty-three days over the deadline which means the calendars and diaries will be on sale early August. So, to all of you who buy next year’s offerings  in June or July, please might you consider hanging on a few weeks till ours arrive? I received a bit of a “must do better” telling off for the failed deadline and it would ease my conscious greatly and make me feel less of a failure if you’d wait till August and purchase our calendar or diary instead! There really is a crazy about of extra work that goes into a Little Dog Laughed calendar and diary. Far, far more than other calendars which use any twelve new designs from stock. Nabbing the catchphrase of a British high street stalwart, our calendars aren’t any old calendars, they are Little Dog, real life, genuine, superstar muse calendars!

The BIG REVEAL | Dog & Cat Superstar Muses

Ready? Here goes!

January

Jasper the Loveable Rogue | Diane Harvey

Caption : So the thing is, remorse is quite difficult when it was such great fun!

Jasper was a Blue Cross rescue. An intelligent and handsome dog, he considered himself a bit of a pin-up boy for crossbreeds. He enjoyed fourteen very memorable years with the Harvey family and was always one step ahead. He was excellent at communication, keeping the message simple, stay out too long and it will cost you a sofa. Jasper was clearly a companionable soul so they adopted Silka, a wire-haired Vizsla. Their friendship bond was immediate and beautiful. It was also double trouble. An accidental open child gate was obviously an invitation to party. They devoured chocolate advent calendars, tore open presents, chewed action men, and trashed bedrooms. The mess was horrendous but their utter joy and lack of remorse was blatant! Rest in peace Jasper, the world’s best loveable rogue.

Mitzi Mittens | Gill Child

Caption: Some angels swap their wings for whiskers.

Some souls are here only for the briefest of time but this exceptionally loving kitten touched the lives of those who tried their utmost to help her. For Gill, it began with transporting cats from a multi-cat household to the vet for neutering. It led to turning her shower into a kitten care unit, attending a folk festival with kittens in tow, becoming a first-time cat mum, and breaking her heart. Mitzi was one of seven kittens from a probable mix of litters. Gill found good homes for five butthe smallest two needed extra care. Mitzi was tiny and had health problems but she was also funny, feisty, and quite fearless. She loved stalking and pouncing on her sister and often used Gill’s shoulder as a launching platform. Gill’s lap became her favourite snoozing spot, here she’d purr like a tractor for hours! A colon condition heartbreakingly ended her young life but her memory lives on. Run free sweet Mitzi.

February

Lady Agnes | Su Pillinger

Caption : Some days I wear the lion hat to remind everyone exactly who they are dealing with!

Rescue dog Lady Agnes is a crazy, non-conformist whack job! If you have ever shared your life with a Patterdale terrier you’ll know that is a completely honest and loving description for the nuttiest, energy-loaded breed known to humans. This feral Ginger Assassin makes Suzie laugh daily, Agnes loves dancing and twerking to Beyonce, her escapologist misadventures are legendary around the village and her sheer joy for life is an inspiration. At almost ten, Agnes has earned herself a zillion monickers -many of which are not repeatable. Sprout (because not everyone likes them!) is an award-winning rat catcher and lover of sausages and bike rides. Calm is not a concept in this Ginger Ninja’s playbook but the Pillinger’s feel peace is a small price to pay for a perfect firecracker of imperfection!

Rory the Love Bug | Emily Romp

Caption: If she can’t find her keys, we can have more snuggles

When your early life has been devoid of love and affection, you’d be forgiven for assuming Rory, the Egyptian rescue would be an emotionally closed book. Yet, this Persian kitty is the ultimate love bug. Advertised for adoption via an animal rescue Facebook page, veterinary nurse Emily spotted his plea and fell in love, but it would be almost a year before she would meet him. First, Rory had to battle a life-threatening respiratory infection. Thankfully he survived and one flight later his new life of devotion began. Rory maintains an impressive hourly purr and chirp soundtrack to ensure everyone knows he’s there and ready for love. His adoration for Emily is unfailing, 24/7 unfailing. Her bed pillow is his pillow, her lap is his lap. Rory knows life is too precious to shy away from showing love, the greatest gift of all.

March

Zack the Parsons | Nicky Craddock

Caption : Breakfast in bed always tastes better when shared!

Zack was a wholly unexpected thank-you gift for Nicky after she cared for an injured friend’s horses. All thirty of them. She was maybe expecting a bunch of flowers or a box of chocolates but never a puppy, especially when she already had three terriers! The friend wanted to show their genuine appreciation and knew exactly what Nicky values most. Young Zack claimed her as his own the moment they locked eyes. He loved life and everything in it, never without a smile or a cheeky little ruff. His comedy timing was impeccable. Zack would sit on Nicky’s lap, place his front legs around her neck, and press his face onto hers, holding still until the spell was complete. He was a huge fan of a good snooze, with his long, Parson terrier legs, stuck straight out, mouth wide open, wrapped in a blanket with a snuggly hot water bottle. Now that’s how you do good snoozing! They shared adventures and sandwiches, laughter and loyalty, and losing him when she did was the cruelest blow. Zack’s memories are safely sealed in Nicky’s heart and she is beyond grateful for the best gift she has ever received.

Elsa the Khao Manee | Sue Duffy

Caption : Yes that’s true, I do consider myself an excellent connoisseur of comfort!

When adorable Elsa isn’t purring with contentment on a beautiful handmade blanket, you will most likely find her hunting for unsuspecting sunbeams. Nothing delights her more than pouncing on light reflections around the house, all of Sue’s ornaments and pictures are collateral damage in this pursuit! She is a black belt with the laser torch beam and will fearlessly wrestle the Hoover light when it’s on. Like many white fur, blue-eyed cats, Elsa is profoundly deaf, which possibly explains her lack of fear for the vacuum cleaner! This sweet little rescue arrived at the cattery suffering desperately from malnutrition and a flea infestation but two years on Elsa is thriving. Her zest for life has brought light and life to Sue’s world and she loves her dearly.

April

Sophie & Bella | Sam Wilcox

Caption: Down the allotment when it starts to rain. Two chairs, two humans, two dogs!

Bella the Labrador retriever was nine when this gem of a moment was captured. A nervous soul, with a world of worries, was one of the reasons Sam adopted Sophie the working cocker /Labrador puppy. She hoped Sophie might help build Bella’s confidence. To be honest, that idea hasn’t gone exactly to plan, some days Sam suspects Sophie just adds to Bella’s anxiety. But it’s different when they are both down the allotment pretending to be ratters. On this particular day, Sam’s husband and friend were gardening when it started to rain. Hurriedly, they stopped to take shelter in the shed, only to discover they were too slow off the mark. The only two chairs were well and truly taken!

Cariad the Boss | Suzanne Shelbourne

Caption : Rule No.25.  All visitors will be approved by myself.

Ruler of all she surveys, Cariad was a young cat when she made Suzanne her number one whim servant! The rescue centre had mentioned Cariad was a chatty little thing but not that she liked to start the day with a 5am breakfast or that she can meow without pausing for breath until all her needs are met. They also didn’t mention her sock fetish. Cariad likes to gather freshly washed socks and scatter them around the house. Bizarrely she only does this when Suzanne is out. Her biggest motivation is food, a roast chicken has to be guarded at all times. Cariad is definitely the boss and ruler of the home. Suzanne knows her place but wouldn’t be without her gorgeous, furry shadow.

May

Stanley & Apple | Davina Powell

Caption: Just letting you quietly know we’re always ready!

Dog owner veterans openly question family Powell’s naivety for beginning their dog life-sharing journey with not one wire fox but two. Did they not know that terrier is a derivative of terror?! Yet who could honestly resist these two gorgeous, show-stopping, canine design icons. Stanley and Apple are siblings from different litters and both are lovers of carrots, hot buttered toast, and beach trips. They have added structure and adventure to the Powell’s life, taking them to new places and broadening their social circle along the way. Stan is an old soul, middle-aged from birth. He is happily led into mischief and mayhem by Apple, his giddy little sister who has zero intention of relinquishing the joy of youth. With Stan and Apple in the mix, daily family life now has added crazy and it is wonderful!

Moana | Julia Summerfield

Caption: I am the Gate Keeper of the Stairs. What’s the password?

Meet Moana, the fluffy half of a sibling duo. Moana and her sister Tiana were found in a derelict attic with their mum and litter mates. Reluctant to separate the last two siblings, cat devotee Julie agreed to rehome them both and so the sisters joined the family, boosting the feline occupancy total to six! Incredibly shy, it was over a month before either cat felt safe enough to show trust. Moana is especially reserved, she prefers to eat alone and the outside world is simply not for her. Indoors is safe, indoors is home and Juliet is love. Moana will gently tap Julie’s arm when she needs a cuddle and although she is shy this doesn’t mask her persuasive determination to ease you off her favourite chair! The study chair is the perfect spot for reflecting on the good fortune of food, warmth, love, and a place to call home.

June

Miss Darcy | Carena Schmid

Caption: Seeking happiness? Hedge your bets, get a dog!

Meet Miss Darcy, a Border Collie whose natural gift is adding sunshine to life. This amber-eyed, soulful sweetheart is a magnet for the lonely and loves chin-wags with the elderly-gathering new friends is Miss Darcy’s urban alternative to herding sheep! Darcy arrived in Carena’s life by bolting across the veterinary waiting room and melting herself into Carena’s legs. Professionally and socially, Carena meets a lot of animals but this felt different. Soul imprinting different. Chatting to Darcy’s owner revealed she was in foster care and looking for a permanent home. Some life-changing moments reveal themselves with hindsight, Darcy made quite sure Carena knew in that instant!

Brkovi the Cat | Juliet Patterson

Caption: Anyone fancy a quick game of Bat ‘n’ Swipe?

Meet food worshipper Brkovi, a Bosnian rescue kitten saved from deliberate drowning with her littermates. Nicknamed Kovi, her name means moustache! Animal-loving Juliet and her partner volunteer their time at weekends to help several animal welfare charities, which explains how their home has become a United Nations for unwanted waifs and strays! Kovi is best buddies with Melina, a blind cat from Portugal, and Husky the dog. Having grown up with Husky, they enjoy howling together, much to the bemusement of the other cats. Brkovi has a mischievous personality and loves lurking at the top of the stairs, ready to pounce on all unsuspecting passing housemates. Evenings are spent curled up on a lap, falling asleep in front of the telly after a very busy day.

July

Boots the Bedlington | Paul Holmes

Caption: Da-da-dad-dadar. . . puppy power!

Boots the Bedlington terrier loves a good sleep as much as he loves adventure. His decision on which one to do is always weather-dependent. Raining, stay in bed, sunshine Let’s Go! Once the sun has charged his batteries the transformation into a pioneering explorer is incredible. He loves climbing, sniffing, exploring, and throwing in a few surprise sets of top-speed zoomies. This little Beddie enjoys holidaying in the family motorhome, sharing the excitement of visiting new places and meeting new people. Boots is supremely confident in the power of his charms and because he loves everyone he struggles to fathom why anyone wouldn’t love him back. Thankfully he rarely has to face this insult as his fan base is huge. A lover of cuddles, Boots is a people pup and after a full day he’ll head to bed, contentedly sinking into a deep sleep. His twitching paws are the only visual clue as his brain memory banks yet another great day on planet Earth!

Sprinkles the Tabby | Johanna Evans

Caption: A quick recharge of my ‘magnificence battery’ and then it’s back to causing mayhem!

Johanna’s animal care credentials have circulated throughout the neighbourhood and one begins to suspect along the feline good life hotline too. Take Sprinkles for instance, a typically mischievous cat, nosey, adventurous, and with a perfectly good home and loving whim servant. But why limit yourself to one home when Paradise Central is literally across the street! Sprinkles thrives on being the ultimate annoying little brother. He loves making a complete nuisance of himself with the older cats, gets rewarded with a boxed paw swipe to the ear, and scuttles off only to return hours later refreshed and ready to start again! This cheeky master manipulator is living his best life and one can’t help adoring him completely for it.

August

Woody | Louise Steel

Caption : Know what would make this sofa moment perfect? Cheese. Cheese would make it perfect.

Louise was Woody the Labrador’s second human being when he joined the family. The first human had found his puppy energy and amazing Houdini skills overwhelming and to be fair, Louise could see why. Handful was an understatement. He was strong in build and will. More than once Louise thought perhaps a saddle was more appropriate than a dog lead. Woody saw no issue in leaping the 6ft garden fence, not when the neighbour’s patio was more lounge-able than his own. But that was a lifetime of high jinx ago. A million memories later and enough shedded hair to stuff a sofa, Woody has mellowed into perfection. These days he favours short walks, a full belly, and cuddles on the sofa. The only itch in his near-perfect life is his annoying little brother Elmo, a retriever-Labradoodle, introduced to keep him young. Woody tolerates Elmo’s enthusiasm and from his prime spot on the sofa he turns a deaf ear and a bored face to that annoying adage “What goes around come around”!

Lucas | Juliet Patterson

Caption: I feel that, as a family, it is so important that we all sit down together for meal times!

Lucas is a Brighton boy with the most incredible show-stopping green eyes. He’s been part of Juliet’s United Nations rescue cats household for well over twelve years. As a kitten, he suffered from a stomach hernia and some neurological problems likely caused by rough treatment. Thankfully he recovered well and hasn’t stopped purring or talking since, including when he’s asleep! He adores Juliet and is happiest when stationed firmly by her side, day or night. His loves are many, the garden, chasing bees, heated beds, cardboard boxes, spicy Doritos chips (a special treat) but perhaps his oddest habit is his reaction to cutlery. He yells at the cutlery when the washing up is being done and as the cutlery is dried and put away – he helps close the cutlery drawer. Amazing!

September

Betty | Josephine Burlingham

Caption : I feel for those with only one best side. Imagine! Poor souls.

Betty is ten-years-old and hasn’t experienced a single second of anything less than 100% adoration. She is the dearest little dog, loyal, affectionate, funny, and a total snuggle babe. It is impossible to pass by without scooping her up for “sniffy kisses”. Warmth is a daily necessity for Betty. If her human is too busy for under-the-jumper cuddles she will compromise with a sheepskin fleece and a roaring woodburner. She adores sun-puddling on her back with her feet in the air, like an overturned beetle! Betty’s greatest joy is family time, closely followed by balloon popping and blanket diving. She brings delight to each day and is aware of her humans emotional needs often before they are! On these occasions she deploys her ultimate cuddle, her head pressed against your neck whilst making soothing and contented little noises. It works every single time.

Marmalade | Angela Johnson

Caption: Kittens are wide eyed, soft and sweet with needles in their jaws and feet!

Marmalade has grown from an adorable playful kitten into a gorgeously, handsome, camera-ready, lazy, happy boy! Born into farm life, Marmalade and his two litter mates Nelly & Ned live the dream, lazing by day, and hunting by night. Marmalade loves the garden, weaving in and out of the flowers and scooping caviar (frog spawn) from the pond. The best days involve slipping into the summerhouse, the feline equivalent of a day spa, and luxuriating in the heat. The only thing guaranteed to get him off his bed is the sound of knitting needles and the thrill of moving wool. It’s a wonderful life.

October

Widget & Bosch | Karen Ricketts

Caption : Remember, we are terriers. We do not quit. No guts no glory!

Father and daughter Widget and Bosch enjoy a dream life down on the farm. Widget is a long-coated cheese-loving Jack Russell who escaped a sleepover to race home to have his wicked way with Ms. Baggage the Patterdale – she was in season! Five unplanned but utterly adorable Patterjacks later, Bosch joined the family, although she very nearly didn’t! As Karen was about to place the birthing bedding in the washing machine, she thankfully gave the blanket a quick shake and out rolled an hours-old, surprise puppy. Bosch’s name is a reminder of her very first near miss-adventure!

Ivor | Madeleine Whatt

Caption : I find wide eyed, intense close-ups are VERY effective!

The trouble with having a stylishly low bed and a cat that practices intense scrutiny at extremely close quarters means the mornings often start with a jump scare. Sitting as rigidly as a chess piece, Ivor’s stare bores into Madeleine’s brain as he concentrates on his telepathic breakfast command. If Madeleine foolishly ignores this request by slipping down under the duvet, Ivor pounces, deploying both front paws for added oomph. With exceptional precision and skill, he always locates Madeleine’s face. This technique has a 10/10 efficacy rate and breakfast is immediately served! With a full stomach, his next task of the day is the ‘window run’, pacing along the sill whilst carrying out a full ‘birds in the garden’ inventory. With that complete, the day is his, save for safely escorting any house human to and from the bathroom. It’s a busy life but Ivor has it firmly under control!

November

Teddy The Fox Red | Lin Marvin

Caption: The best thing about a hug? Everyone’s a winner.

Meet Teddy, a fox red Labrador who learned the joy of water from watching his middle-aged mum jumping, splashing, and dancing her way through the puddles. After numerous park walks where Teddy gingerly stepped around the muddy wet stuff, Lin realised she’d have to show him it was safe. Despite the initial wide-eyed puzzlement on her young pup’s face as he watched her splash, Teddy gingerly volunteered a paw, giving the puddle a tap. Seconds later he was four paws in with a smile that shouted puddles are the BEST! He’s since progressed to swimming in the pond and hasn’t looked back. Teddy is racking up numerous memorable firsts; first time to the beach, first dig in the sand, first taste of ice cream. Lin loves viewing the world anew, all through Teddy’s discoveries, he makes her heart burst with pride and joy and teaches her as much as she teaches him.

Bear the Cat | Michele

Caption: I see you have the grooming brush and I say ” Thank you but no thank you”.

Meet Bear, Michele’s fluffy boy. He has a lion’s mane which he prefers to wear tousled. This explains why he was sitting on the back of the sofa with zero intention of moving. He could clearly see Michele ready and waiting with the grooming brush! Bear is such a sweet and caring soul. He arrived with his sister Bella into Michele’s world sometime after the passing of her beautiful tabby cat Toby. Toby was extra special, he was her soulmate, and losing him greatly exacerbated Michele’s PTSD. She worried that having another kitten would be a betrayal of his memory, what if she couldn’t love again? Thankfully Michele’s husband knew better and with Bear and Bella in her life, Michele soon realised that the human heart can love many times over. Loving and caring again is not a betrayal, it’s a chance to share the love and lessons your  feline has shown you.

December

Flex the Leonberger | Holly Donaldson

Caption: Pucker up it’s CHRISTMAS!

Built like a lion but with silky soft ears and the heart and temperament of a teddy bear, Flex the Leonberger is the softest and kindest dog Holly has ever shared her life with. He loves people and animals and such is his gentle nature, every toy he’s ever owned is still intact, never chewed, just a bit soggy! Flex favours all weathers, particularly storms, he simply adores the wind in his fur. If there is no wind he’ll opt for a fabulous body rub against a wet hedge. His unique webbed feet make him an excellent swimmer, which he does at any opportunity. The phrase gentle giant is perfect for him and now at the grand old age of eight one could add super chilled too. Flex’s favourite resting spot, by the front door, ensures he never misses any household comings and goings, not so much guarding, more of a giant fluffy meet and greet. Holly really wanted to see a Big Dog at the Little Dog and we had to agree, Flex is too gorgeous and massive to ignore!

Bella the Cat | Michele

Caption: I LOVE the smell of Christmas shenanigans!

Bella is the sister to Bear, Mr November! Shorthaired and much smaller than her brother Bella is definitely more confident and unlike Bear, she is happy to be groomed. She loves to bake in the sun and is not a fan of winter. Thankfully Christmas and a house full of festive decorations provide a wonderful distraction from the cold. She is so grateful to Michele for thinking of her entertainment needs! Born from a rescued feral cat, Bella was initially nervous and shy whilst Bear had separation anxiety. Michele made sure to provide plenty of cosy hiding places and slowly but surely both cats have flourished. Bella is still wary of strangers but when the home falls quiet, it is heartwarming to see this little cat walk and play with a new found confidence. It’s wonderful to see how far she has come.

Comments

    • Please don’t be gutted, I save every photo submitted and always return with fresh eyes. Sometimes I find my artist abilities desert me and I fail numerous attempts but situations and needs change and then previously submitted muses fit the bill perfectly. Basically there is always hope! Thank you for entering, kind regards Anna

  1. It looks like neither beautiful set of diaries and calendars. Of course….I will be waiting to order from you when they are available. No other diary will do!!

Thanks for ok of your hard and most talented work.

    Mary P.

  2. So wonderful to see a leonberger get picked, ok it could have been my girl but at least a Leo won, my Doris will be 12 on the 30th May, which is the same as a human reaching 100, she has been my assistance dog since she passed all her assessments at 3 years old, was a registered therapy dog and a canine blood donor, her still being with me at 11 years, 11 Months and 2 days is like I have won the lottery

  3. I keep entering my beautiful mixed breed rescue who is adored every where I go but sadly she’s never been chosen on here . I would have been so very proud.!
Even today on our walk I’ve had wow she’s so stunning. I even get people taking her photo when they meet her and to have been featured for the Little Dog would have been so fabulous as-well for the charity I got her from . How amazing it would have been to see her go from living on the streets and unwanted to being featured in your lovely calendar . So pleased for the people who have got their pets featured it must be a great feeling. Well done to everyone. ❤️👏

  4. Reading the animal blurbs, is becoming one of my favourite yearly activities. Such love by the owners, and always interesting pet personalities.

Anna always carries it off with aplomb, such dedication! Mitzi Mittens looking ethereal, with the curtains in a breeze, stills my heart, and Zack is adorable!

Ivor is feeling poorly at the moment, but when he is better, I will tell him he is now a muse and a superstar: ‘Mr October’!

Will be buying the dog calendar, as well as free cat calender, because I love the dogs this year! (Won’t tell Ivor, of course he is the best). I buy diaries etc in the Autumn/early Winter. Does not most people?

Animals and WWII is exactly my kind of thing. Will look out for Wojtek when Anna gets the time. Big pat on the back from all the animal lovers, Anna.

  5. So disappointed Max ( Mr February 2025) isn’t in this year as I sent classic photos of him again. He’s such a gorgeous fella. Will try again next year I guess. Next years choice okay but there’s a lot of cats just sitting, not doing anything which would have been more interesting to look at.
    All the best.

  6. Thank you Anna for beautiful pictures and heart warming stories, particularly the parson russell terrier of which i have one and yes, his favourite place is on the bed with me.

  7. Congratulations Anna,

I hope you’re very content with these gorgeous finished articles. The hours of work that went into both calendars is clear to see.

Such a varied and heartwarmingly authentic mix. As always you’ve captured the owners love to a tee! I’ll be ordering my 2026 calendar for sure. Well done to all featured beauties 🥰

Now they are done please take some much deserved downtime away from the drawing boards and feel very proud!

I waited with such nervous excitement to see if my Bailey girl had made the edit but will console myself by imagining her beauty was just too difficult to capture 😜❤️

    Always next year …
